wow - that was a great weight training workout. Bench press, lunge-walk with dumb-bells, butterflies and more. Nice tired muscles.
Not so much shotokan karate recently, achilies tendon issues are keeping me off the dojo floor. :-/ So I do strength/flexibility for now.
Heading to the Gym for a Chest/Legs strength training routine. I just make it up as I go, alternating chest and legs, finish with abs.

Light Training with Kata Review
I enjoyed an hour of light karate training today with my old training partner, Max. We just did an easy workout reviewing all the kata, starting from Heian Shodan, all the way through the 15 basic kata, and onto the advanced kata until we were fogetting moves. I’m doing lite jogging with knees way up, dynamic stretching (leg lifts) with steel-toed boots on, and chopping firewood for strength.
After a year away from karate training, my new flexibility from training with Alanna is still there. But my strength is really down.

I completed todays stretching by putting one foot on top of my car, relaxing into front and side split positions. I like foot-on-car pose!
after the dynamic leg swinging, I did an extended set of static stretches where you tense against the stretch, then relax, and repeat twice.

I have three weeks before the club starts up again this fall, and I want to get in pre-training shape so I dont’ injure myself on first day!
I’ve had lower back pain and back injuries in the past because my mid-section was to weak for the hot dogging I was doing at the time. ;-)
I can feel it in my trunk muscles! My few sets of dynamic stretching this morning uncover my weak mid-section!

Dynamic stretches; 10 to the front, 10 to the side, 10 with feet in L position, 10 to the back. Repeat. Form first, endurance, then height.
Lite jogging, stance stretches, static stretching on steps, 2 sets of dynamic leg lifts, static stretching with leg on car top.
I’ve been off training for about a year. Spent the past year infront of a computer. I’m out of shape, weak, stiff and slow.
